    Great cafe and cake but the coffee was a total disappointment

    Hot Creme Bruleé Coffee. If I can only use 1 word to describe this, then I'll choose 'pathetic'. Let me be blunt, it's not creme bruleé. When I think about creme bruleé, my mind goes to the amazing crunchy texture from the burnt caramel/crema, nice sweet burnt flavor and more so. This one got nothing to it. I saw the way the barista made this, it's the same way he made my latte. So why don't you called it latte with creme bruleé flavor? Nice place, great ambiance, perfect cake but sorry, this coffee let you down.

    Over rated Soft Serve Ice Cream

    Godiva Ice Cream Chocolate. The highlight for me was the texture. The texture was extremely good. Just put in my mouth and it literally melted right away. The chocolate was a bit sweet, I'd prefer a bitter choco flavor. But that's okey, the sweetness level was still acceptable. The cone was crisp, definitely not a cheap one. I knew it from the very first bite. It had some sweetness to it, not a plain one. The cookie-choco crunch was adorable. It gave a slightly crunchier texture to it and once again, it tasted sweet. Oh, and they did put a choco bar and drizzled it with chocolate sauce. Not a big fan of the choco bar, but the choco sauce was good. To sum it up, sweet-crispy cone, sweet cookie-choco crunch, sweet ice chocolate, sweet choco sauce and sweet choco bar. But somehow, it's not overly sweet! Like a magic. 

    Taste wise, it's good. Price wise? You decide, 80K for one cone. It's totally out of my league. Once is enough, at least I've tried.

    Solid Fusion Restaurant

    Nori Taco. Spicy Salmon, nori tempura, melted cheese and tobiko. The nori tempura was super crunchy and tasty and it gave a nice texture like crispy masterpiece. The tobiko had a salty and oceany and umami flavor. The melted cheese was good, just a little creamy and not overpowering any other ingredients. The salmon tasted fresh, fatty and raw. The spicy mentaiko was the bomb!! Creamy and salty and spicy and savoury, to sum it up, full of bomb flavor. It's everything I need, can't ask for more. Genius! When I saw they served me 2 pieces of this little thing in a huge plate, I thought "really? 50K for this?" 10 sec later, my mind went to "It's worth it!" It's dope!

    Ube Bomb. I've been curious for this place for a very long time. Finally yesterday I had the chance to try it. Checked this place with pergikuliner and the most interesting dish that caught my attention was this ube bomb.

    Taro pudding, cereals, fresh strawberry, mint leaf and condensed milk (the white liquid, not so sure about it but it tasted like one). Beautiful plating and I could hear the sounds of cracking popping candy which was interesting. The texture of the pudding was custardy, liked the texture so much. The taste? Not too sweet and yeah, I definitely tasted taro on that pudding. The cereal was giving a nice solid texture to bite. I couldn't taste the popping candy and I felt no popping sensation or whatsoever in my mouth. However, the condensed milk ruined everything. It made the pudding tasted so damn sweet. Couldn't finish the the pudding thanks to it.

    Let's forget about the ube bomb, the place is super good. It's not too big but super cozy, friendly services and the ambiance is exquisite.

    Fe Cafe [ Pluit, Kafe ]

    I'm completely biased on this one

    Yakiniku Don. Rice, grilled beef steak, egg and chilli paste. The steak was good. Lean, tender, perfectly cooked not too rare but not too well done either. The egg was runny and it brought nice creamy flavor to the don. However, I really think it's a misleading name. You should call it black pepper steak don, not yakiniku don. Super strong black pepper flavor and aroma. It's overpowering every single thing. I didn't even taste the natural sweetness of that beef. Such a shame. I'm not a fan of black pepper from the very first place, it's something I detest to be exact. So, the taste totally didn't work on me. 

    If you like black pepper, you might like this. I believe this dish is something that either you love it or hate it. Me? I clearly hate it. Did the dish taste like shit? No. It's just not my thing.

    Come back over and over again

    Salmon Creamed Spinach. Pan fried salmon, lemon reduction and creamed spinach. I like the restaurant, but not this menu. The plating was kind of boring. The salmon was fishy and flaky. The inside was no longer in pink. The baby potato was hard and not tasty at all. The vinaigrette sauce was so so. It's somehow not really compliment the salmon. And the creamed spinach was super creamy but I didn't really taste the spinach. It's overpowering the natural earthiness of the spinach. So yeah, I recommend this place but this menu is just meh.

    Nori Taco. Have you seen this post in my feed? No, you haven't. Yes, I have posted the nori taco review before but the topping was spicy salmon. Now I'll tell you about the spicy tuna one. The nori tempura was dope as always. Crispy to perfection with salty and savoury flavor from the seaweed. The melted cheese was salty and creamy. The mentaiko was superb. Salty, spicy (spicier than the first time I came, but I still like it), creamy, super rich. Now the tuna, I'd never thought I'm gonna say this but I'd rather eat the tuna than the salmon. The tuna wasn't fishy at all, it's thick, it had such almost meaty texture to bite. The salmon one was more on the smooth side, but the tuna was totally a bad ass. You gotta try this. Eric approved!

    Good twist on the fried rice

    Nasi Goreng Rendang. Authentic stir fried rice with beef rendang, served with slices of cucumber, white cabbage and sprinkle with padangnese red crackers and fried shallots. Before I give my review, I wanna tell you some fun facts. 

    1. They use rice from solo. It's less sweet and less sticky. So yeah, perfect for fried rice. 

    2. They bring the crackers from padang. Yeah it's thin and crunchy. But I think it's not necessarily needed. I mean the cost of doing that and the impact just don't make any sense. But, yeah. That crackers is slightly tastier than the average crackers here. 

    The taste of the fried rice itself was pretty mediocre. Nothing really stand out. I did enjoy the texture though. The rice was dry and not sticky. They put few chunks of beef rendang. The rendang itself actually was good. Super tender in texture and rich in flavor. 1 bite and you know this is a fancy padang. But, it lacked something. I didn't know what's that. But, when I eat street padang like Sinar Minang, it gives kick and bold flavor right away. Here, the taste was more gentle and subtle. However, I did enjoy this menu and I think the price is still reasonable.

    Great as always

    Truffle Steak Don. Thick slice US beef, kokuho japanese rice, 63 degree egg and katsuobushi beef sauce. The steak was super tender and so gewd. I could taste the natural sweetness from the meat itself. The egg was runny and cooked into perfection. It gave extra creaminess and sticky texture, loved it! And the moment the don arrived, I could smell strong truffle aroma. If you like truffle then you'll love it. My only concern was the kokuho japanese rice, it's a super super normal white rice. No need to mention it, it made my expectation go high and all I tasted was normal white rice. Overall, still a super solid steak don.

    Teppan Saikoro Steak. 200gr cube cut steak over beansprout & chopped garlic and served with japanese rice. The steak was good. Tender and so flavorful. Savoury and the natural sweetness from the meat itself and so earthy thanks to the beansprout. Taste wise it's good, however it didn't meet my expectation at all. First, the size of the saikoro beef. It's just too small and trust me, it's the saikoro steak not some fermented soybean. When I read the 200gr of steak in the description, I expect it to be huge square chunk of steak not this thin cut steak. Second, the japanese rice. It tasted like normal white rice. No japanese taste or whatsoever. Third, the chopped garlic. I thought they gonna give me a small diced fried crispy garlic. Not big size sliced garlic. Still, I did enjoy my bowl.

    Mediocre and quite pricey

    When I think of buffet, my mind goes to huge variety of choices. Here, sadly not so much. Then the station was way too small and close to each other. In other word, too crowded. Imagine lot of people try to take their meal at once, quite chaos and long queue guarenteed.
    Then the taste was pretty mediocre. Nothing really stood out. When it comes to buffet, I do lower my standard. Most of hotel buffet do the same thing, the quality of the food is always compromised and focus on the varieties instead. But like I said before, the choices here's not so much. Lacked of varieties and not so tasty, quite disappointed. Especially it's Ritz Carlton, I expected something more than that. But yeah, the service was friendly. Plus point for that one.
    The sushi station was the one that I hate the most. The salmon was okey, like any hotel. Yes they did have unagi and showed it at the cold case. Not hide it like the others. *ps: always ask for it and if they have it, they'll give it to you*. However, it tasted too fishy. I just didn't enjoy that at all.
    The seafood station was also pretty sad. Only some kind of clamp, cockles and shrimp. Such a boring station. But taste wise, it's quite normal.
    Then the chinese station, I don't know if I missed anything or what, but I only saw a shaomai bucket. I didn't try it, since it's empty and I ain't check it again.
    Let's talk about the meat. I tasted their roasted duck, roasted chicken with lemon,  beef shank with rice angkak, oxtail and roasted barramundi acar pesmol.

    The roasted duck was quite bland however no gamey taste. So plus point for that.

    The roasted chicken with lemon was dry. The taste? Normal. No bomb flavor or whatsoever.

    The beef shank was super tender. Love it. And it tasted like beef. I mean in a good way. I love how I could taste the natural goodness of that beef. Well, the rice angkak flavor could be found nowhere though.

    Then the barramundi. It still tasted a bit fishy. Not really strong but the after taste was a bit nasty. I didn't taste the acar or got the actual acar either. So it's weird.

    Special shoutout to the purple cabbage with balsamic. No beef left so I took the purple cabbage and it's good. Sour and refreshing and crunchy. All at the same time.
    Then the dessert. They do had lot of choices like 7 or 8. I tasted their choco mouse or something like that, black sesame tart and of course the ice cream.

    The choco mouse was supppeeerrr sweet, 1 bit and I could take more.

    Then the tart was dry and flaky. And lacked of black sesame flavor.

    After eating both of it, I had no intention to try the others. However, how could I ending the buffet without ice cream.
    I went to the ice cream station and saw 4 or 5 flavors.  The cook told me that the ice cream was home made. Which is nice, most hotel bought the ice cream. I tried their chocolate and mango. The mango one was okey. Nothing special. But the chocolate was great. It almost similar with grom. And if you follow me long enough, you know how I love grom.

    Then my eyes saw purple and white thingy in the corner of the table. It's blackberry and coconut granita. The cook recommended the blackberry. It tasted so so so good. Fruity, refreshing, sweet and bit sour. Love it.
    Btw, that was my experience. Overall I don't really recommend this place. You can get a better buffet place with that price. But seems like everyone except me quite enjoying that selection of dishes. Am I too hard on them?

    Since it's buffet, you may get different dish there. So don't hold my review that much.

    Marco Padang Grill [ Thamrin, Indonesia ]

    Wow. just wow

    Martabak Kelapa. The crispiness of the traditional crepe, the creaminess of grated coconuts, and sweetness of granulated sugar. Sweet but creamy. It had dimensions of flavor. The flavors were so well layered. It made me wanna have some more. The food was amazing, however the price was not. For me, it's way too pricey. Once again, for me.

    Khung Bar & Restaurant [ Thamrin, Lounge ]

    tender and tasty duck with no gameyness

    It's one of their signature mains.The meat was very lean and tender. It's definitely not a fatty kind of duck. There was a bit smokey taste to it.The skin wasn't crisp at all, but the tenderness from that meat compesate it. Usually you'll get hoisin sauce when you order duck dish like this, but here they give you 2 kinds of homemade sauce. Hoisin and plum sauce. I personally prefer hoisin sauce. Salty and 100% compliment the duck. It's not like the plum sauce was bad. It's a bit sweet and plumy. I think I've eaten too much MSG, so the plum sauce tasted a bit plain for my tastebud.
