Great Ayam Geprek
Nasi Ayam Geprek. This ayam geprek was slightly different with other geprek. The chicken wasn't too messy and still in chunk pieces which I like. I could still feel the texture. Someplace, they smash it too damn excited and I feel like eating shredded chicken.
I chose the sambal matah one. The matah was good, not too spicy and not too oily. And the price was reasonably cheap. 17K for rice and chicken. From now on, this is my benchmark for ayam geprek.
Ps : I don't like the other celebrity ayam geprek. (I know you know which brand I'm talking about) I personally don't understand why it gets that famous. Lost all texture, more pricey and too messy or did I eat it at the wrong branch at the wrong time? IDK. Should I give it another shot?Menu yang dipesan: Nasi Ayam Geprek

2.4Noribu [ Green Ville, Jepang ]
substantial but that's all. not tasty
Baga Chick. Japanese fried rice bun, vegetables, chicken katsu, nori and noribu singnature sauce. Let me be blunt, for me it's not tasty enough. Everything was pretty mediocre. Even their signature sauce tasted like normal sweet sauce. The katsu was okey but not special. Crispy outside but the inside wasn't juicy enough. The rice was a bit disappointing. The concept is similar with mos cafe. Replacing the bun with pack of rice. The rice was too plain and tough. Maybe give a lil twist on the rice would be a game changer. They use the japanese theme, maybe a lil furikake or seaweed powder on the rice would be nice. I don't know, but using plain rice like that seems boring to me. It's not a bad dish, but I just felt like the taste wasn't even close to be called fantastic. The only plus point for me was the portion. One portion and all the hunger went out the window. One word, substantial.

Best Emie
Emie. If you don't know this, you should try. It's famous and tasty. The noodle was good. Not too soft yet not tough either. It's bouncy as it should be. The boiled potato was good. And the gravy was sweet, seafoody or shrimpy to be exact and thick. They put (lot of) shrimp, beansprout and fried shallot. For me the most essential factor in emie is the gravy. And the gravy here was fantastic. Someplace serve crappy emie gravy and trust me, you won't take a second bite there. When it comes to emie, I only trust 2 places. Here and emie acuan. Personally I do prefer emie acuan. The gravy was more lighter and less sweet, they put less shrimp in that gravy. But it's just a matter of preferences. Both of them are great on their own strength. Light or rich gravy, you decide.
Ps : I'm medanese, so I know exactly the shit I'm talking about. And if you happen to go to medan. Do try yoserizal, you'll find the exact same taste.Menu yang dipesan: Emie

Hidden spot in puri
Breakfast Burrito. Tortilla, scrambled egg, bratwurst sausage, hash brown and cheese served with mix salad and tomato salsa.
Great way to start your day. Not too heavy but substantial enough. The tortilla was bit crisp and doughy at the same time. Like the texture of that. I gotta admit that I've never thought putting scrambled egg and hash brown into burrito would be a great idea. But it is. The airy and smooth creamy scramble egg mixed with crispiness of the hash brown, dang. Ying and yang. The sausage was too liltle, I didn't really notice it. The same thing happened to the cheese. It's nearly non-existent. Good for me, I ain't big fan of cheese. The burrito itself was quite solid for me then I tried to eat it with the tomato salsa, damn. The salsa really brought it to a level higher. Such sourness and savory and bit spicy, so refreshing.Menu yang dipesan: Breakfast burrito

2.6Itacho Sushi [ Thamrin, Jepang ]
Pretty f*cked up sushi but the skewers saved them
Roasted Salmon with Foie Gras. The only thing that made me order this was the foie gras. Foie gras and it's affordable. And it turned into another disappointment. First, the salmon was super thin, didn't taste much. Then the rice was also too damn plain. No salmon juice aroma or anything. My best guess is they didn't torch the salmon on top of the rice but torched it first then put the torched salmon on top of the rice instead. Otherwise it means the salmon wasn't that good in the first place. The foie gras, just forget it. Didn't taste like one. It's not even similar with the foie gras I remember. I should have known that from the very start, it's too good to be true. But at least it got some taste to it.
Roasted Salmon Skin with Butter and Blackpepper. The skin was way too thin and tasteless. The butter and blackpepper weren't even existed. There's no butter block kind of thing like the picture on the menu. Did the chef mess up and gave me a total different menu? I know that the real dish and the picture on the menu can be different but to remove the most essential component? Not wise I gotta say.
Like any itacho place, they do have special promotion menu, a super cheap one. And the rule is one person can only buy that a piece. And this is that menu. I tried itacho in SG and the special promotion sushi was the best cheap sushi I've ever had. It almost tasted better than their regular sushi. But here, total disappointment. The rice was way too solid and plain. Lacked of that sourness like any good sushi rice has. Not to mention the misleading butter and blackpepper name. Before you judge me with "deal with it, it's the cheap one", I'd like to tell you that the rice on the regular sushi was no better than this.
The rule is one sushi per person right? In my personal opinion, better keep it that way. So no one will buy it in numerous amount and feel like being deceived.
To sum my sushi review in 1 word : pathetic. No hard feelings but it is what it is. The sushi was sucks, the only good menu I tried that day was the skewers. Unlike this pretty f*cked up sushi, the skewers were nice.
Teriyaki Chicken with Yuzu Kosho. A solid skewer. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The burnt charred aroma was good. It had that charred smokiness to it. Then the spring onion, it gave crunchy texture and earthiness to it. I love spring onion in chicken skewer. I just do.Then I tried to use the yellowish pile of sauce which was the yuzu kosho. It introduced a nice surprising flavors. Zesty, salty and bit spicy. I gotta say you must use it if you happen to eat this. The zestyness and spiciness of the yuzu really enhanced the charred chicken and the earthiness of the spring onion balanced the flavor out.

huge variety of menu. Suit yourself
Beef Bacon & Onion Burger. Beef patty topped with beef bacon and sweet onion jam sandwiched between fluffy panini bun.
The visual look on this dish was boring. It got brown and brown. No greenies or red tomato whatsoever. But fuck visual, as long as it tastes good, eat it. The patty was thick, not that cheap thin kind of patty that you normally find in fast food chain. It's tender and juicy. What's better than sweet caramelized onion? The answer is a pile of sweet caramelized onion. Look at the amount of that onion. So generous. It's so fragrant and so sweet. The only turn down component on this dish was the bun. Panini bun but didn't taste like one. Yes it had that brown color but that's it. No burnt taste, no crispy texture (not even a bit)
Baramundi & Cherry Tomato Sauce. Pan fried baramundi with spinach and cherry tomato sauce and you can choose 2 of your favourite side dishes.
The texture of the fish was meaty. Not a clean lean of fish. Not necessarily a bad thing, I did enjoy that. The creamy spinach was a hit. Earthy, not too creamy and not mushy. The cherry tomato was a bit disappointing. It's mushy and lost all the crisppiness. Luckily it's a bit sour and gave refreshing flavor to the fish. Ate the fish, spinach and tomato all together and it's good. It's like they're meant to be together. Creamy, earthy and bit oceany. The eryngii mushroom blew my mind
Soy Glazed Wagyu Bifuteki. 180gr tenderloin bifuteki medium well, glazed with homemade garlic soy sauce served with pan fried eryngii mushroom, creamy mashed potato and wagyu sausage.
First, the steak was tender but not as tender I thought it's gonna be. Like it's wagyu so I expect something more. It's not melting in my mouth tender kind of level but it's not hurting my teeth from chewing too much either. Love the natural sweetness from that beef. The sauce wasn't overwhelming it. I thought it's gonna be a boring soy sauce but I was wrong. They used fried shallots on that sauce and it tasted good. It's more to the sweet side than savory. Then the mashed potato, it's not that creamy. Good thing for me. I prefer my mashed potato that way. Not too creamy and not milky either.
The thing that really blew my mind was the eryngii mushroom. Yup, you read it correctly. The steak was just a steak, no offense but I didn't find it mind blowing at all. However, the mushroom was the real game changer. It really brought the sweetness and earthiness to the dish. It elevated the dish to a level higher. As individual component, nothing special. But when I ate them together, it felt like they're supposed to be matched together. Don't trust me? Just try it yourself. You'll agree with me.
Here's 1 fun thing I wanna tell you. I did cut half of the greenies away. So don't freak out when you try it and find the greenies covering most of the steak. Why there's so much bushes on my steak.Menu yang dipesan: Soy Glazed Wagyu Bifuteki

3.6Dashi Chazuke Zenraku [ Thamrin, Jepang ]
Unique kind of dish
Unagi Dashi Chazuke. Teriyaki unagi, sliced tamago, edamame, spring onion, served with dashi soup and pickles and wasabi.
When this place opened, I did wanna try. I thought it's tea over rice. So when the waiter told me that it's dashi not tea, I left the place immediately. It's not that interesting. Like it's dashi, it has savory flavor on its own. Obviously it'll taste good like any normal broth.
So one day, a friend of mine asked me to try a place that we've never tried before. And this place popped into our mind. Checked the directory app and the rating was quite high, so we both agreed to try this one out.
You can choose rice or noodle for this menu and I chose the noodle one since I ordered the rice one on different menu. It's not mind blowing at all, well it's not supposed to. For me it's more like a homey comfort food kind of thing. Not fancy, lousy, mind blowing kind of dish. It's more like something that you need when you have no appetite but hungry af at the same time. The texture of the noodle was quite good, the unagi was tender and sweet and boneless, the tamago and spring onion were okey and like I thought, the dashi tasted like any rich savory broth. Nothing really stood out. I can't really complain since it went down extremely easy. And I don't know if it's normal, but I did put the pickles on it. It gave crunchy texture and nice sour kick.
The concept is a bit 'unique' for us. I do recommend you to try this place at least once. And try the rice one to feel the difference. There's no rare to find soupy noodle, but rice?Menu yang dipesan: unagi dashi chazuke

2.2Kara Island [ Gandaria, Kafe ]
Definitely not my thing
I forget the name of the menu. It's a cup of ice cream with lots of topping below. The texture was good like it smooth and easily melted. However, the taste didn't work for me. Sorry to say but it's quite inedible. I felt like eating frozen coconut milk and it's weird. I couldn't eat more 2 spoons. I threw away almost all the ice cream so I could eat the toppings below. For me the worst kind of food is the one that it's not healthy and still tastes bad.
The topping itself wasn't that good but compared to the ice cream, it's pretty nice. Like the coconut was not tough although it didn't taste like real fresh coconut meat, the jelly was nicely chewy, and the texture of the pudding was soft and powdery.
But let me tell ya. When I say that it tastes bad, it doesn't mean that it literally tastes bad and vice versa. It means it doesn't work on my taste bud. It just doesn't meet my preferences. And for this one, it just can't. It's way too far from my preferences but I do know that some of my friends really like it and recommend it that much.Menu yang dipesan: coconut ice cream

easy bowl eatery
They sell fried chicken and rice in a bowl with lot of flavors to choose from. Tried them and here's my thought.
Sweet Glazed with Mayo (35K). It may be named sweet glazed, but somehow I tasted more salty and savoury flavor from the sauce. Yes I could taste the sweet side, but the savoury flavor was more dominant. You gotta eat it with rice, otherwise it'll be too salty.
Salted Egg (35K). It looks good right? But I didn't taste it, so I have nothing to say.
Sambal Matah (35K). Rice, fried chicken and sambal matah. The perfect combination for me. The sambal wasn't that spicy with strong oniony flavor. So harmonious with the rice.
Rica Rica (35K). The rica was good. Not too spicy but it's very fragrant. It had unique spicy flavor. Once I ate it, I knew it was the rica one.
Buldak (35K). This time they used korean sauce on the chicken. To be honest, I didn't like it. Not because it tasted bad, I just don't like buldak. As you've already known, buldak had some bitter after taste. And I don't particulary like that kind of after taste. So yeah, not working for me.
Sambal Matah with Rica (40K). The combination of sambal matah and rica rica. The price is slightly higher than the others. But, I'm definitely gonna buy this one again. 2 of my favourite flavors into one bowl?
