Yamagoya Ramen [ Muara Karang, Jepang ]

Another Ramen to be on your radar!

I find it bizarre to know that Yamagoya Ramen, despite its long-lived expertise worldwide since 1970s, only establishes one single outlet in Jakarta in Baywalk Mall. That is to say, its ramen is not bad at all even though it may not be the best one.
I had its signature ramen of course, Yamagoya Ramen. A medley of thin ramen noodles, two tamagos with not-so-runny yolk, tender pork chashu, spring onion, nori and bamboo shoots (Menma) constitutes one big bowl of this Ramen. And let's break it down!
First, the broth. It has this mild taste, which those who  love savory ('gurih') food may find a bit plain. I myself still like it though because it gives this lukewarm and pleasant feel to my tastebuds. I sense no problems with the noodles and chashu, and I need to take my hat off for the nicely done tamago. It is in fact the most outstanding one. Other fixings are just fine.
Well, just one note for the curry rice as it didn't really taste like how Japanese curry should be. It's way too strong and perhaps overwhelming for some customers.
Service is swift, place is okay and price is quite standard.

KOI The [ Pluit, Kafe ]

Matcha's not for me, I guess.

It seems that there is no doubt about how 'addicting' the Ovaltine Macchiato served by KOI café has been (at least for me) ever since it started plunging into the rivalry of tea cafes in Indonesia. However, let me this time frown upon one of the drinks--always displayed in every KOI store: Matcha Series.
Matcha Macchiato, though I thought was gonna be as  great as Ovaltine, somehow fell far below what I expected. It tasted nothing but that bitterness of Matcha, and that's that. Quite disappointing indeed and I don't really consider giving it another try.
That said, I think I'm gonna spend my cash on Ovaltine M. again or bet on other types of drinks here.

Social Affair Coffee & Baked House [ Pantai Indah Kapuk, Kafe ]

    Beautiful Interior!

Anyone can guess that the comfy ambience and instragammable spots are a major selling point of Social Affair. No wonder visitors are constantly dominated by women taking pics here and there. Saying this, I am not implying that the food is not worth trying though. In fact, its array of menus presents quite some delectable dishes---although nothing outstanding in particular.
Some dishes we ordered included Croque Madame (4.5/5), Seafood Chowder (4/5), Crab Lasagna (3/5), Sweet Chilli Crispy Chicken, Seafood Linguine, Oxtail Fried Rice and some nibbles like truffled fries and sriracha Chicken Wings. I'd have my testimony only on those I tried to have a taste.
Croque Madame, my own order, was totally tempting from the outside with the yolk of the sunny-side up flowing slowly and the red bacon stacked in-between the bread. And yes, the look didn't disappoint me.
Seafood Chowder--the bread bowl is quite a unique thing for me, and the soup per se has this precise savory taste. However, as it purpots to have 'seafood',   I barely see anything but some prawns and fish meat.
Crab Lasagna: My tastebud seemed not to get the grip of anything special with this Lasagna. It tended to be plain and way too soggy, I may say. I am sorry I don't recommend this one.
My other friends apparently didn't lament about the other food, but some may find the price rather high for certain menus. It's understandable, once again because its flagship is the cozy place.
So, consider bringing along your best camera, if you fancy so.

Bakmi Congsim Medan Pasar Rame [ Mangga Besar, China ]

    Not so special!

Not familiar with Hokkien Noodles, I found the bakmi served in Cong Sim Athek quite new in regards to its texture, taste and of course the abundant topping.
The noodles strands are quite thin with its texture rather sticking to each other. The toppings (pork charsiu, chicken, pork rinds, wonton, fried shallots and spring onion) are literally everywhere that they really dominate the bowl. People won't be disappointed seeing the portion.
Unfortunately, I must say that the bakmi is not as flavorlful as you would expect from the look. It tends to be bland even when I try to add some soy sauce and stir it around. It feels more like eating the toppings with noodles instead of the other way around.
Disappointing it is, as it does not really meet the price I have paid for one bowl (40k). Once is enough to quench my curiosity.

Sushi Kiosk [ Thamrin, Jepang ]

    Lumayan buat ngemil

An affordable version of Sushi Tei is here in its sister company, Sushi Kiosk! With its grab-and-go concept, Sushi Kiosk does not fail to maintain the freshness of its sushi though of course, don't expect its quality to be as high as that of Sushi Tei.
I bought its Kitsutsuki (60k) and yeah, everything served is just fine. No fishy smell or the like. Simply add some shoyu and chilli powder and it's still quite delicious enough to calm your rumbling tummy for a while. But waiting time can reach up to 15-30 minutes for this sushi box packet--not a big deal if you're not in a hurry.
Oh, one more thing: sushi size can be rather small, so expect that you'll gobble up everything in just a couple of minutes.

Eggo Waffle [ Thamrin, Waffle ]

    Pretty good for sharing!

Strolling through Grand Indonesia Food Court, your nose can easily sense many fragrant aromas coming from vendors here, and one of the most alluring comes from Eggo Waffle which serves one famous HK street snacks, Egg Waffle--the thick ball waffle.
Eggo sells quite some variants of waffles (17k-20k) like pandan, vanilla, red velvet, etc and offers extra toppings (5k-15k) to be filled inside the waffle dough such as nuttella, cheese, tuna mayo, and so forth. You can add ice cream too if plain waffle is 'meh' for you (38k). Mine is pandan waffle stuffed with cheese and topped with twist ice cream. Well, It's yummy, but that's that. It's just another ordinary snack for sharing and keeping your mouth nibbling.
n.b. Plus point for the cute packaging! Nice yeti!

Abura Soba Yamatoten [ Thamrin, Jepang ]

    Try its Original Soba!

A friend of mine constantly recommended Abura Soba Yamamoten for its well-known soba and she always mentioned "It's one of the best soba she has ever tasted." And yup, her choice really hits the bull's eye!
Every element (e.g. soba, pork/chicken, bamboo shoots, seaweed) with additional condiments like vinegar and chilli makes up perfectly this one black bowl of delectable soba. Adhere to the steps of eating soba vividly posted on the wall, stir everything well and voila, you're ready to munch.
I had a chance to taste its Original Abura Soba and Karami Soba served with chicken and pork respectively. The original one is just too delicious for me to stop eating while Karami Soba is much tempting, thanks to its creamy look from the coddled egg. Having tasted both of them, I'd say I prefer the original one. Decision is yours!
However, the place is always packed, so this may be a good idea just for a quick lunch--not that it's not comfy though. Plus, nothing's troublesome with the service either.

Pooki Bbang [ Slipi, Snack ]

Here comes the Poop Bread (as they call it)!

It is undeniable that the major selling point of Pooki Bbang is the bizzare shape of its bread. The filling? I bought the Choco Nutella (17k) and yeah, it's quite delicious to please your sweet palate although nothing much can be said about it. If it weren't poop-shaped, it would probably not be as appealing as it is now, I think. Oh, they do provide ice creams and double filling as well--quite a nice one for snacking.
One commendable thing is the cordial service of the staff. Always looking vibrant!

Marugame Udon [ Slipi, Jepang ]

    Abura Udon for Good!

Fancy some dry udon instead of the broth one? Well, you can try one of the Udon served in Marugame Udon called Abura Udon (45k). You can choose either regular or spicy abura udon, but either way, I'd say it's still a wise choice.
I myself ordered the spicy one which turns out to be mildly piquant. Add some more chillis in the provided self-service stall if you wanna have a spicier one. Mix the udon thoroughly with the base and minced chicken (this is the best feature, imo), and you'll get an appetizing red udon. This one bowl, though seemingly small in size, can be quite fulfilling due to the thick udon string. But have your refillable ocha/tea ready as it may be rather dry for your throat at some point.
All in all, Marugame Udon is probably still the best option should you crave for some Udon.

Tsurukamedou [ Green Ville, Jepang ]

    Why the broth? 😐

Inclined to try Tsurukamedou Ramen ever since I knew this ramen-ya, my friend and I eventually made a visit to its only outlet in Ratu Kemuning, Green Ville. We did expect quite highly of its ramen--particularly Tonkotsu Ramen (Pork-broth Ramen) as it seems to be the best-selling one here. Bummer, expectation leads to disappointment, doesn't it?
I am not saying that the Tonkostsu Ramen is bad. I do like the chasiu which is quite succulent and tender, and the tamago was not served there in vain--it was a nice one. The noodle texture was also fine.
However, the broth somewhat didn't suit my liking. As its base was made from pork, I thought it's supposed to be rich and meaty but what I got was rather bland unfortunately. I feel like the taste of the spring onions (aka 'daun bawang') is much stronger than the broth per se. Simply saying, the taste was 'boring' despite the fact that its opaque and milky colour is perfect. I don't know, but I was just unlucky, I guess.
Anyway, service is fine with no laments from me, and price is quite wise for one bowl of ramen. Well, I may return but for other ramens or menus, I'd say.
