    Nazbro's [ Gandaria, Kafe ]

    So messed up!

Expecting a nice dinner with good food here, my friend and I were just utterly disappointed with almost every single thing: the food, service, and particularly the restaurant itself.

We ordered the pizza + the peri-peri chicken, but the only thing that came up was the pizza. We waited for a while for the chicken, but it turned out the waitress forgot to actually write the order. Not to mention, the service was sluggish, with everything just seemingly slow. What's worse is that the staff didn't inform us that there would be this gatheeing of the other guests, who literally sang as loudly as possible as if the restaurant were theirs. We had to cope with the noise from the other guests, who had a karaoke (NOT in the private room). Had we been informed on this, we would've cancelled our visit and looked for another place.

Alas, we were already too fed up to complain, and yess, we totally didn't enjoy our stay there. What a joke!

Harga per orang: Rp. 50.000 - Rp. 100.000

Kebuli Ijab Qabul [ Grogol, Arab/Timur Tengah ]

    Simple yet not so simple!

I had been longing for some Middle Eastern spices, and yeay, Pergi Kuliner gave me one of its monthly vouchers to visit Kebuli Ijab Qabul. Despite its modest home-based look, this small eatery will not disappoint.

My friend and I ordered two plates of Nasi Kebuli, one with chicken thigh (29k) and another with smoked beef (41k), complemented with two glasses of Teh Arab (10k). The spices of the rice were moderately strong, which suited my liking, and both the chicken and beef were nicely seasoned---though the beef size was a bit smaller than one would expect. To some, it might taste a tad spicy, so the extra chilli can just be put aside. If you're a big eater, I suggest ordering one extra plate. And the price was decent for the portions we got.

Sure thing, Kebuli Ijab Qabul is indeed a nice treat for my spice-loving tastebuds.

Menu yang dipesan: Nasi Kebuli Ayam, Nasi Kebuli Sapi Asap

Excellent panini and pasta, yet ...

Finally got the chance to eat out after quite a hiatus during the pandemic, and I decided to visit Babochkaa at Tribeca Central Park, thanks to PergiKuliner Vouchers,

As it's Buy 2 Get 1 Free, we opted for three menus, and yes, while we felt quite sated with the panini and pasta, the seabass fell rather under our expectation.

The panini was served in two large bites with nicely minced chicken/beef inside, and the taste was delicately savory and sweet. Pretty decent dish, I'd say.

If you're looking for pasta, Babochkaa's pasta won't disappoint you as well. The penne was perfectly cooked with its yummy creamy carbonara sauce. Comparable to other "more popular" Italian bistros.

However, what we were not really happy with was the seabass. The lemon sauce was odd, the fish was rather dry, the salad was also too sour. Edible it is, but I am not gonna order it again. Looks are not always everything, are they?

Overall, Babochkaa can be an escapade if you're bored with all the indoor restaurants at CP.

Menu yang dipesan: Lemon Butter Seabass, Panini Babochkaa, Penne Carbonara

Harga per orang: Rp. 100.000 - Rp. 200.000

Phoenix Coconut Chicken Shabu - Shabu [ Hayam Wuruk, China ]

    Unique Sapo Tahu!

Whenever you invite your friends to Chinese restaurants, their responses might probably be "Boring!" or "C'mon, we are not having a family dinner right now!". This is so common that Chinese food is no longer considered a special type of cuisine by some. However, they might change their mind if they visit this particularly new restaurant at HXC, Harmoni.

As its name suggests, Phoenix has Shabu-shabu as its flagship menu, but I am not that into shabu-shabu, so I order its other menus. And gosh, I can say that the food is much better than expected.

One surprisingly tasty menu is its Sapo Tahu. Wait, you might come up with that typical round Japanese tofu, but here, they use the extra firm block tofu, which is a bit crumbly in texture, added by a variety of mushrooms and vegetables. And this texture is what makes the Sapo Tahu quite different yet still delicious.

If you need something crunchy, I'd recommend the salted-egg fried lotus. The combination of the mushy salted egg and crunch of the lotus is just on point.

We also ordered its Tom Yum soup, which is not a Chinese dish, but it is served hot and fresh to accompany your meal.

Service is likewise excellent, but how unfortunate it is to see the chairs so empty the two times I was here. Again, it's been a long time I haven't been impressed by Chinese delicacy, and Phoenix didn't fail to impress me.

Menu yang dipesan: Sapo Tahu, Salted-egg Fried Lotus, Tom Yum Soup

Harga per orang: Rp. 50.000 - Rp. 100.000

Cali Deli [ Thamrin, Vietnam ]

    Banh Mi! 😆

We were looking for 'light' snacks to keep our mouth munching, and eventually, we were rather intrigued to taste the so-called Banh Mi (aka Vietnamese Baguette Sandwich) in an American-Vietnamese small eatery in the LG of GI, Cali Deli. Just find 'K' bookstore and its open space restaurant is right across it.
Of course, not changing our initial plan, our eyes were immediately directed to the selection of banh mis, from which I placed my order of Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi (4.5/5). "Sandwich? What's so special?" some may pretentiously judge, but hold your words there.
This seemingly modest sandwich is not as 'modest' as it looks. There is this melange of savory, sweet and sour tang, coming from the fresh pickled veggies, juicy lemongrass chicken and crunchy baguette eaten altogether at the same time. Pricewise, it's far cheaper than many other 'exclusive' Vietnamese restaurants nearby.
This really should be in your to-go list if you are into sandwiches.

Harga per orang: Rp. 50.000 - Rp. 100.000

Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba [ Thamrin, Jepang ]

Nice soba, but not my favorite!

There are not many Japanese eateries serving soba as their flagship dishes, and Kokoro Mazesoba is among these few restaurants. It's conveniently located on the 5th floor of Grand Indonesia, and almost never does the restaurant look empty. My friend and I was going on a culinary 'binge' and Kokoro became our first stop.
I personally ordered the one with that chef-recommended badge: Tokyo Mazesoba with soft-boiled egg. It came with quite a decent bowl size though it is apparent how green it is due to the amount of spring onion and chives sprawling over half of the bowl surface. Even so, I still kept my expectations of the soba high.
Overall, I'd say that Kokoro's tasted not bad, but it failed to astound me to certain extent. In fact, with the same range of price, it couldn't overtake its older rival on the lowest floor (YA Soba) as my favorite soba. However, for first timers, there is no reason why you shouldn't go here, I can say.
Note: The waitress somewhat 'misheard' my order for Chicken (Not Pork) Soba, but I shrugged it off as I was fine with both back then.

    FATBURGER [ Thamrin, Barat ]

    Pathetic!

It's been a long time I haven't tasted any bad burgers, but bummer, I wouldn't have thought that Fat Burger, located in one of the prestigious malls--Plaza Indonesia, was indeed a sheer disappointment, even from the look of the burger at a glance.
I had its 'signature' Fat Burger, and you know what, I am really wondering whether mine was really a signature. In fact, this was one of the worst patties ever served in the burger chains I have ever visited. The beef patty is dry and tastless, which is obvious from the look. Not to mention, what makes the burger has something 'tasty' is the chopped lettuce and onions. Buns couldn't also save this literally 'junk' food. My friend's black pepper burger was no doubt also pathetic.
And for all of such quality, we had to spend quite a lot more than usual burgers. I have to say that burgers couldn't probably be any worse than Fat Burger. I wish I could take cash back and go to BK/Carl's for better food.

    Go! Curry [ Slipi, Thailand,Jepang,India ]

    Eyes on Curry!

Back to routines of writing reviews! And again, as it's always my penchant for amy types of curry, I think it wouldn't be complete if had never visited Go Curry!, an eatery serving at least three varieties of curry: Japanese, Thai, and Indian.
This time, I opted for its Rogan Josh served with Yellow Aromatic Rice and Chicken Tandoori. I would say that I had virtually no problems with all the components served on that one big plate. The flagship (i.e. the curry) had that sensation of how an Indian curry should be---piquant and strong in terms of its spices. The rice was indeed fragrant and could go hand in hand with the curry. And the tandoori was so tender you didn't need to bite it too hard. And choose your spiciness wisely as too much chilli may ruin the authentic curry taste.
However, one may agree that Go! Curry sets quite higher prices for its selection of menu, as I spent Rp110k++ (tax & serv incl.) for one plate along with a glass of refreshing drink.
But I'd say that its excellent curry can really compensate for the price you pay.

Jongga Korea [ Hayam Wuruk, Korea ]

    Ruined by Cigarette Smoke!

As I wrote in my last review, I really had a great Korean dining experience in Jong Ga. However, this time, I have to express my disappointment of Jong Ga considering a serious issue (at least for me and maybe not for others).
The problem is not about the food and the food, though somehow not as tasty as the one during my first visitation, we still enjoyed it. What held me bewildered is how a restaurant like Jong Ga could allow smoking in one single room and they did not try to provide a smoking room as well. My dinner with my friends was quite tarnished by the presence of smoke coming from some of the patrons. If it were a random street food stall, I wouldn't comment much, but this is NOT. We were too lazy to complain to the manager, but yes, I hope they can read this and give adequate clarification about this. This made me think twice to revisit this restaurant.

Genki Sushi [ Pluit, Jepang ]

    Here comes the sushi train!

Anyone fond of sushi absolutely knows this one-of-a-kind ordering system applied in Genki Sushi. Just click on any menus on the provided iPad, and within a minute or two, your food is ready to be served.
Nonetheless, in spite of this particular distinction, there is nothing memorable of all menus that we had. We clicked on what we found appealing yet not so pricey: tamago, three-flavored salmon, baby octopus, california roll, tuna roll, and dynamite spicy roll. Sushi size tended to be smaller than others. Specifically regarding the last menu I mentioned, it was way too salty, to which my friends highly agreed. The complimentary Wakame Soup is not good enough, even seeing that it was served gratis.
Well, having that train serving us is quite a brilliant idea, but as to the food, what I can say is that they ended up being mere tidbits for us, not to mention the price range which is quite expensive, I'll say.
