Went to AB Steak for my sibling’s birthday dinner with the family. The place was spacious with high ceilings and nice decor, creating a pleasant ambiance. We reserved a private room and opted for the omakase for 4-5 guests with some sides on the side. The omakase included appetizers: Akira Back Wagyu Pizza (good), Fantastic 4 (didn't try), Galbi Taco (good), Salmon Tataki (good), Dwenjang Jjigae (ok), Bulgogi Sotbap (good), A5 Beef Tataki (good), and 5 chefs’ selection cuts. We sampled all the appetizers, except the Fantastic 4, as it is one portion (even recommended to be eaten in one bite) and not suitable for sharing which is a bit confusing as the omakase is for 4-5 guests. In short, the appetizers were good but not amazing.
The omakase featured 5 chefs’ selection meats, but when the meats and sauces arrived, the chef didn’t explain which cuts were which or suggest pairings with the sauces. The taste of the meat itself was good, and most cuts were tender and flavorful. However, the marinated (possibly, seems like) galbi, both sweet and savory, was a bit charred and had a slightly bitter taste to it. The cooking seems off, maybe the heat was uneven or it was cooked for too long. Quite disappointing since the meat is the main star.
Regarding service, the staff were friendly but lacked the informative touch of the old AB. At a mininum spending of 8000k (before tax), sadly, the taste and experience didn’t meet our expectations. As someone who loved the old AB Steak, the service and food fell short and is not worth the price. Perhaps we visited too early, and the staff were still adjusting and undergoing training. Hopefully, the service will improve in the future.
