MY WORST OMAKASE EXPERIENCE EVER! I’ve tried a lot of omakase restaurants, but this is by far the MOST EXPENSIVE AND THE WORST! Please take the time to read this and save your money. Have booked for valentine’s dinner for the second most expensive package priced at around 6 million Rupiah for 2pax including tax.
The menu — for a 6 million Rupiah meal, was a very poorly executed menu with no finesse, only had 1 course that had sashimi cuts, unnecessary dishes like salad, tempura, starters (esp considering they only had VERY FEW courses; and on top of that, their starters either lacked flavor or tasted weird and unauthentic). The salad came with a tuna that honestly felt like canned tuna with a gritty salad dressing. It felt like no thought or concept was put into it. The only thing I liked were their assorted sashimi, which obviously stood out on its own without the chef having to do anything. On top of that, this 6 million Rupiah course is a 10 course meal, however the ocha drink is included in the 10 course meal (so its technically a 9 course meal). I’ve had way better omakase experience in other authentic Japanese restaurants in the Senopati and SCBD area for a 20 course meal which was ONLY 5 million Rupiah, and their courses were perfectly thought out, with MANY delicious delicacies and cuts, where the chef (and waiters!) explains everything to us what we’re eating, how to eat it, gives us a back story, keeps track of the food served to us. I had no clue either whether the ocha was refillable or not, as no one tried to refill it nor were we informed if we could refill or not. In legitimate omakase restaurants, even in basic sushi restaurants that are in malls, they would usually inform us if the ocha is refillable and would ask to refill the glass without us asking. On top of paying 6 million Rupiah, the cuts were just underwhelming and even on the rice dish which supposedly had UNI in it, there was only ONE TINY UNI in the don which had no flavor to it and did nothing to the overall flavor of the bowl (pictures of gakjelas and unnecessary food attached).
On top of the poor menu, the service was TERRIBLE. The chef only came ONCE to our table to get us to buy sake, NEVER once did the chef or even the waiter explained what the dish was, how to eat it, nor did they interact with us at all (unless asked), which is VERY UNUSUAL FOR AN OMAKASE RESTAURANT. It honestly looked like they did not care. Not only that, but they FORGOT one of our rice courses (there were 2 rice courses for each person in the omakase set) and tried to lie and MAKE EXCUSES by telling us that we were only supposed to choose 1 rice course; WHICH WAS A LIE because (a) no one asked us in the beginning which “rice dish” we wanted and (b) in the omakase menu that was provided to me when I booked, the order of the 2 rice dishes were quite far apart and we didn’t find anything that said/implied that the rice dishes were optional. We insisted that it wasn’t optional, and they came back saying “its being prepared” with NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR APOLOGY. And so they served their supposedly last course, which was dessert, and I had to let them know that they had forgotten one dish, and then after a while of back and forth, they served us the rice dish they had forgotten.
All in all, I paid slightly above 7 million Rupiah for a meal and service that I did not enjoy, from the poorly executed food to the bad service where they tried to get away with not giving me one of my courses that I had already paid for with no apology. I have never written reviews like this, but I honestly feel this is a rip off, will definitely not be coming back and will never recommend this to anyone.
