Vanilla Latte
Caramel Latte
I went here with my family and boyfriend since it’s my last night in Jakarta before studying abroad and this place landed my choice. Why? It’s a relatively new place with very nice interior that offers round-the-clock service (opens 24h). Just the type of place I was looking for where I could care less about time. This place is located in Plaza Festival (right next to Bakmi GM).
Food and beverage: 3.5/5
I ordered quite a lot since I was here from 8 til midnight. Let me start out by saying if you’re here to eat super-delish, great lunch or dinner, this is NOT the place. I initially wanted to order the famous nutella drink but they ran out of ice cream. So what we had:
- Vanilla Latte & Caramel Latte: both are so-so. Tasted like regular lattes, neither bad nor great.
- Lychee Iced Tea: you can barely taste the lychee since they only put one lychee fruit. One. Too many ice, the longer you let it sit, the more tasteless it will be.
- Iced Lemon Tea: very sour, too much lemon.
- Fried Calamari: squid was cooked right, although you have to eat it in one bite or else it would be chewy and the crispy coating will just shatter. Tartar sauce was spot on. 👍🏻
- Caesar’s Salad: vegetables were so fresh (still had the crisp to it), bacon was savory, cheese was given at the right amount but the chicken meat were little and small and the bread is so thick it was hard to eat.
- Nasi Lemak: if you’re hungry, I suggest you order this one since the portion is so big. It’s a malaysian signature dish and it tasted like Nasi Uduk. Chicken was tender and emping was not bitter. Seasoned right but nothing special.
- Potato Wedges: regular cut tomato wedges with grated cheese. Salty! Great for light snacks.
- Aglio Olio with Salmon and Olive: seasoned perfectly although it came on small portion. Savory down to the last bite. Bread that came along with it was barely edible.
- Cassava Chips: basically fried singkong with cheese. Had the same taste as potato wedges, the difference is only the main ingredient: cassava instead of potato.
- Tiramisu Cake: so so so good. The texture is soft and it just melts in your mouth. Top layer had cocoa powder that combines so well with the creamy layer under it and the chocolate ones at the bottom. Must try this for dessert.
Pricing: 4/5
Let me start out by saying it’s the place where you come for the vibes not the food. Quite pricey for coffee and dishes that tasted regular but I guess you pay for the ambience here.
Ambience: 4.5/5
It is very easy to spot this place. A white building that stands out with its white paint and black bold writing, catchy on the eyes. When you come inside, the cashier where you order will be on your right alongside the kitchen and bread/desert display windows. On one of the table, free lemonade drink will be waiting for you. Once you walk in, you will notice the great centrepiece which is a huge tree located by the stairs that will lead you to the second story (small round marble tables, single chairs by the wooden table overlooking the first story, and smoking room). Bathroom is located on the left side of the stairs (even the bathroom had nice interior). First floor is addressed for large groups since it has large wooden tables (non smoking). By the main wooden table, there hung a dear-head ornament. On the second floor there are non smoking area (the one with marble tables) and smoking area (outside the door). If you’re going to the second floor, I suggest you take the singles chair as it provides a clear view of the whole restaurant (and its photogenic, instagram worthy setting). When you come here, you have to order on the cashier then take your seat. The only bad thing is the place is so crowded but designed to fit so little. If they could expand, I’m sure it would be such a great plus. Go here on a weekday if possible because the place are usually full on weekends. Oh and they have marvelous lighting! Perfect selfie/photograph setting.
Service: 3/5
Since it was so crowded, all the waiters got their hands full and not once I see them smile or being friendly (except the one on the cashier). They put our dishes on the table loudly and recklessly til it made a “clang” sound and even then they did not seem to care. They just scurried down to deliver another order. Seemed so eager to finish their shifts.
Highlight: I can’t stress how photogenic this place is. The decorations are just divine with the right amount and setting of light both day and night. Taking a picture here is almost compulsory. Fried calamari and tiramisu were the winners. Best part: opens every single second of the day. Perfect place to just chill and hangout or even do your work. 👍🏻
