    Seafood 38 [ Kebon Jeruk, Indonesia ]

    Worth the price

    Of all the few affordable seafood joints around town, I have to admit this is one of the best one so far.

    They have quite an assortment of selections and sauces, and super fresh products, made to order, on such a very friendly price. Not to mention they taste really good as well!


    I highly recommend the steamed clams, because it goes super well with the amazing condiments provided, especially if you love garlic, you will love this one the most. 

    The downside is this place tend to be super packed, thus some dishes might be sold out quick. So my suggestion is to arrive super early (They open at 5 pm) and order anything that you fancy!


    Only thing that has the high price range is the crabs, so unless you are not a big fan of it, I’d say just order up shrimps and other things other than the crabs.

    Pho Street [ Puri, Vietnam ]

    For the Vietnamese fuud lover (who craves pork)

    AMAZING, is all I can wax poetic about this recently opened (at least in Puri area) Vietnamese place.
    Given that a few vietnamese places in Jakarta tend to not having any pork dishes available, Pho Street is like a light at the end of the tunnel for me.


    Albeit they don’t have a lot in their menu, but they cover the very best. Very fresh broth, generous amount of meat and noodles, and delicious chilli oil condiments. And on such reasonable price tag too! Will definitely be my favourite spot to hang out from now on!

    Haven’t actually tried the rice dishes yet, but those will be my to-eat list for next visits.


    My only concern is, perhaps they need to prepare more of the herbs and fresh vegies for the pho, in case they ran out.

    Baconerie [ Kemang, Kafe ]

    A delightful brunch

    A very amazing small joint this was. Kudos for the all day brekky menu, and pork bacon!! Portion-wise can be a bit overwhelming, but with the price-tag, it was worthed. The ultimate highlight I have to say was the candied bacon, such a great marriage of sweet and savoury and sinful. They also have assorted beverages, my faves are Butterscotch Latte and Cafe Bombon!

    Kimukatsu [ Tebet, Jepang ]

    Quite impressive!

    A new place is now open, and it offers a new rather authentic experience to enjoy the beloved katsu dish, with a modern twist. Millefeuille style! 

    Thin slices of meat layered neatly and then deep-fried using fairly course panko breading, creates a wonderful mixture of crunch with tender juicy meat. ANd there are a few selections you can choose : original, cheese, negi, garlic, and black pepper. We chose the cheese and garlic, the cheese was splendid…the garlic however lacks the garlicy punch. It could be just the garlic-lover in me wanting a little bit of a kick…but over-all they all taste pretty lovely.

     This place also instructs us how to properly enjoy a nice katsu dish, we are given a mini mortar and pestle in which we can concoct our very own sauce using toasted sesame seeds and a special sauce.

    The appetizers are quite a feast! A Japanese-style Scotch egg, and deep fried (sinfully) delicious chicken skin are highly recommended.

    It was a very nice experience.
