    Sari Laut Jala Jala [ Slipi, China ]

    Another affordable dimsum feast to recommend for dimsum lovers!

    Situated on the lowest floor near Hero store, Sari Laut Jala-Jala almost always looks crowded, especially on weekends. This is of no question due it its affordable yet delectable arrays of dimsum as well as the other Chinese dishes. Knowing this, my family and I decided to have our dinner here though having to be put in the waiting list for almost 20 minutes.
    Talking about the food, dimsum is for sure not to miss in this restaurant. We ordered at least 5 kinds of dimsum and only one of them was kind of disappointing.
    1. Leng Hong Kien (4.5/5): Prawn coated with mayonaise sauce. This looks simple but don't let the look fool you. Its sweet-savory taste is absolutely perfect.
    2. Lumpia Saus Tiram, Hakau Udang (4/5): typical dimsum that's usually served in most dimsum chains. Not disappointing here.
    3. Bao Ayam (3.5)/Lumpia Salad Goreng (2/5): The Bao ayam was just ok, but the latter was totally tasteless--its filling particularly. The look is really deceivingly tempting, I can say.
    Now, about the main courses, Ayam Panggang HK was totally of top notch quality. The chicken was well-cooked and the meat was really soft. Don't forget to dip it in the chilli sauce. Lamian was also distinctly delicious--notably the broth. Kailan Dua Musim was crunchy though not so special.
    Service is not compromised despite just very few waitresses who seem to have problems smiling. Food is served fast and they do respond to us quickly. Thumbs up!
    All in all, Jala Jala will be a wise choice if you want to treat your friends or family without having holes in your wallet, :D

    Hong Kong Cafe [ Menteng, China ]

    HKC Nissin Ramen for good!

    Strategically located on Jl. Sunda (opposite Sarinah Building), this outlet of HKC is simply applaudable for its cozy ambience and almost excellent service. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be soothed by some incense fragrance and cordially greeted by the waitress. You'll be also asked whether you want to choose smoking or non-smoking room. For me, I opted for the latter.
    As to the food, I was not much pleased with my first experience in HKC Central Park. Yet, it was not the case here. This time, as I only craved for a quick lunch, I directly chose HKC Nissin Ramen without much waiting---a dry ramen served with one big chicken chop, one sausage, one over-hard/over-medium egg, some pak-choy and broth. In a glance, this looks like an ordinary "instant noodle", but the look is really deceiving. This is absolutely one delicious dish.
    The noodle's texture is chewy, the chicken is tender and well-seasoned, the sausage is of no mundane quality, the egg is not that sort of ridiculously thin sunny side up and the broth is also warmly refreshing. The seasoning per se was quite decent in taste. And portion also won't be disappointing.
    Totally a remedy to my previous 'not so good' experience in HKC!

    Bakmi Ahong [ Toko Tiga, China ]

    I expected too much for its bakmi!

    Mie & Ayam Rebus Ahong, located in a rather secluded place in Blandongan area (near Vihara Tanda Bakti), is surely one of the veterans of bakmi and Pak Cham Kee (Steamed Chicken) in the vicinity. With its place rather small and hot, one would probably prefer to have a take-away. And that's what I did this time.
    I ordered its Mie Ayam Rebus and I had high hopes that it would taste great. Bummer! I couldn't simply hide my disappointment when I had my first bite of the bakmi--rather plain, if not tasteless. I even need to season it with soy sauce. The saving grace is only the chicken meat and steamed wanton (pangsit). Well, expecting too much? I thought so. Perhaps, it's because mine is a take-away order? I don't know.
    Next time, I will probably return for its steamed chicken (Pak Cham Kee). But for the bakmi, let me just think twice about it.

    Dapoer Benhil [ Bendungan Hilir, Indonesia ]

    Just another restaurant added to my to-go list for affordable lunch!

    Situated on Bendungan Hilir street behind BRI Tower, Dapoer Benhil can absolutely be an alternative if you are too fed up with rather similar restaurants in malls (e.g. Solaria, Platinum). Besides its more affordable prices, the menu has quite a variety of choices to offer, not to mention its small and simple buffet.
    We came here without prior plan because we were merely strolling around, looking for lunch. Inside the eatery, you can feel the home-like eatery--not so much but decently decorated. Though not air-conditioned, it's still a cozy place to have a meeting or work on projects. They do provide good Wi-fi!
    As to the food, all of them are quite typical. Nasi Rawon (24k) was nice, Nasi Ikan Asam Manis (26k) was of no complaints. Just one thing: the Nasi Goreng Keju (26k) somehow lost its "keju" taste---mere cheddar chops on top of the rice, that's it.
    Other than that, visiting Dapoer Benhil won't be a wrong decision.

    Pondok Minang [ Jembatan Lima, Indonesia ]

    Murah Meriah!

    Makan Nasi Padang yang enak gak perlu mahal. Pondok Minang yang ada di jalan raya Jembatan Lima ini jadi buktinya. Rendangnya sangat berasa, gede2 dan empuk, gak alot, ayam pop atau ayam panggangnya juga enak. Gak lupa perkedel yang ukurannya gede banget dan enak banget. Harga? Ayam + Rendang + Nasi: cuma 20 ribuan, yang tentu sngt terjangkau. Kalau di restoran Padang lain mungkin bisa smpe 30-40 ribuan.
    Pokoknya, jangan judge dari tempatnya yang kecil dan simple. Coba dulu makanannya!
    Note: Bisa delivery untuk wilayah Tambora dan sekitarnya.

    Nasi Campur ALU [ Mangga Besar, China ]

    Food that even vegan can't resist!

    Eyeing for food around Mangga Besar, one definitely shouldn't miss out on one of the best nasi campur eateries in town: Nasi Campur Alu. The place is small yet very clean and the owner is no doubt very friendly. But above all is its main dish: Pontianak nasi campur which is absolutely impeccable, thus making you want for more.
    Rice topped with abundant fixings such as Pork Char Siu, chicken, egg and vegetables and immersed in special thick gravy will be a perfect company for your big lunch. The melange of sweet and savory taste is really something food lovers can't dream of. Portion is decent, priced at Rp40.000 for one plate of nasi campur.
    So, if you haven't come here, you surely can't claim yourselves as a nasi campur lover. A must-go for anyone in love with nasi campur!

    Martabak Gokil [ Thamrin, Indonesia ]

    Grab it while the discount lasts!

    Interested with its 20% discount (valid till Oct 15), I decided to have some take-away martabak from Martabak Gokil which is just recently open in one of the corners of Sarinah Building parking lot.
    Like most Martabak franchises, MG offers a variety of 'kekinian' martabak, one of which is its Royal Red Velvet that I chose to buy. Without waiting too long (10-15 minutes), I got my order already.
    Cut to the chase about the martabak per se. Well, I see that MG succeeds to serve decent martabak, though well, not so astoundingly delicious. The combination of cream cheese and oreo is nice but it can be overwhelming at one point when we eat too much of it. Portion is bigger than usual martabak, I can say. Overall, still a recommended one.
    Service? No complaints at all as they were friendly enough when I placed my order.

    Nasi Kari Akiat [ Jembatan Lima, China ]

    Heavenly bliss for every curry lover!

    As the one and only eatery that sells Pontianak curry in Krendang area, Nasi Kari Akiat has shown its profound expertise in serving one of the best curry rice in town.
    With just Rp34.000, you can already stuff your belly with one big plate of curry rice served with at least three kinds of meat, one whole egg, potato and several vegetable fixings--as you can see in the picture attached. They surely know we just can't get enough with just one type of meat. And yes, don't be shocked with the portion and you'd better share one for two if you are not actually starving. What a price for such scrumptious dish!
    As to its location, it is difficult to reach this restaurant by car for sure: limited parking space. The place itself is just like most restaurants in the vicinity: home-like resto. But forget about it! Its Nasi Kari Akiat is totally a hidden diamon that could've been more popular than it is now.

    Lamian Palace [ Slipi, China ]

    Not as good as the one in GI!

    Neo Soho is officially open and one of the very first restaurants available is this famously affordable yet infamously overcrowded Imperial Lamian. Having once tasted its prime cah ciang la mian in GI, I was tempted again to give it another try. My friend herself ordered Mie Sup Pedas.
    Hmm, overall, I was slightly disappointed because its taste was totally different and not any better from the one I tried in GI. It was a big portion but its taste was not as rich as the one I tasted before. I don't know: perhaps, the chefs are still rather 'new'.
    The other menu, my friend testified, was quite delicious, but two chillis shown in the menu ARE NOT spicy enough somehow. You should probably remember this. And last but not least, bakpao telur asin (only Rp 9.999 for the meantime) was also a nice dimsum to accompany your meal.
    Service was still decent though there were several in-training waiters. Place? Always packed.
    But one thing for sure, though my second experience here was not as special as my first, Imperial Lamian will still be in my to-go list due to its affordable prices.

    Nanami Ramen [ Hayam Wuruk, Jepang ]

    Halal Ramen at Affordable Price!

    Nanami Ramen, another Japanese ramen eatery situated in an area where Chinese restaurants are literally everywhere. And it had been quite some time since the last time I ate ramen. Not wanting to go too far for it, I expected that Nanami would be a wise choice.
    When I came here, it was empty with me being the only customer. The place was cozy, spacious and they had decent wi-fi too (not sure whether they provided sockets though). The waitress warmly presented the menu and because there are not so many menus to choose (only 3 kinds of chicken ramen (NO pork) + others like don, soba, curry rice, etc) and I chose Shoyu Ramen.
    Ramen came with its pleasant aroma and thick and seemingly juicy slices of chicken made it look even more tempting. I tried the broth and it was just balanced--not overwhelming yet not plain. The noodle texture is also not disappointing. And above all, it's totally a budget-friendly for one bowl of ramen: 49k (tax incl.). Just one thing though: I am wondering whether it's a good idea to use caisim as fixings for ramen.
    Another suggestion: it may be a better thing for them to add more menus if they do want to compete with other ramen chains. But surely, I'll be visiting again next time as my wallet really approves this!
