Saseu. Batter-fried pork. When the dish was served, I can't deny that I were totally dissapointed. It's just fried pork, not batter coated fried pork. To make it more depressing, there's no plating at all. Just the meat with 3 slices of cucumber.
People say 'ugly food tastes better'. So let's hope it's true. The texture of the pork was chewy. Too chewy actually. It's like something that will insult your teeth. You can't bite it off easily, you just can't. But strangely, the more you chew, the more you enjoy the flavor. Incredible earthy goodness. It's just the right pinch of salty, savoury and porky. Felt like eating junk food but still quite satisfying.
Branzino Alla Mediterranea. Pan fried Seabass with black olive, capers, red onion, pumpkin puree and sauted spinach. What a complex menu. The texture of the seabass was kind of unique. Meaty in the edge and clean in the middle. Savory seabass, sour from the caper and sweet from the pumpkin puree. It's more like a party in one plate. Not a cheap meal but totally worth it.
Seafood Plater for 1. Grilled prawn, grilled squid, fried dory, french fries and paella. The amazing presentation that you see here looks exactly like it does on the menu. The squid and paella were really the star of the show. The squid was a bit chewy, I mean like enjoyable chewy. The paella was nothing to compare for. Rich in flavor and tons of spices. To sum it up, a solid plate of seafood.
Shrimp and Clams Aglio Olio. The saddest part was, it's not even mine. So I ain't tasting the shrimp or the clam. But, I did try the pasta 😶. The texture was good. Not too hard and not too soft, al dente gonna be a proper word to describe it. The flavor was a bit confusing to me. Was that really aglio olio? Strong seafoody flavor and lack of garlic flavor. We all know aglio olio means garlic and oil. If I crave for aglio olio and they serve me this, 100% it won't satisfy me. However, if I ain't specifically craving for aglio olio, this pasta actually tasted quite good. I mean the flavor was there. Rich in flavor and lot of toppings. My point is, it's a good pasta with misleading name on the menu
Beef Plater. Texas beef ribs BBQ, beef back ribs, roasted beef brisket and turkey bacon potato served with watercress salad. I think it can be shared up to 4 persons.
There's nothing special with the turkey bacon potato. Creamy potato wrapped with bacon. The bacon was good but thats it. No turkey taste or whatsoever. The roasted beef brisket was tender with slightly smoky flavor. The beef back ribs was great, especially for those who love to gnaw the bone like me. There is no glamourous way to eat this.
The texas beef ribs was the star of the whole plate. Super tender, rich in BBQ flavor, very clean and leave no aftertaste flavor on your tongue. It's super tender and you need no knife at all, you can just pull it off with your fork. This was one of life's finer pleasures. Superb.
Nothing to compare. No salted egg croissant comes close to this one
Salted Egg Yolk Lava Croissant. Still the best salted egg croissant in Jakarta. A bit creamy and salty egg yolk, crisp dough and the best part was the richness of the salted egg wasn't overpowering the sweetness of the dough. FYI, they sell it with super reasonable price. Sorry to say, tried the pull pork sandwich and it's a crap. Once again, it's based on my preferences. You don't have to trust it, I still encourage you to try it. Overall, I think I'll still come back.... but for this croissant alone.
Hanger Steak. US hanging tender steak, grilled vegetables, sweet potato fries, caramelized shallots and blue cheese butter. Ordered the medium one since I shared that dish. Personally, I do prefer medium rare. The steak was tender even though it ain't medium rare. Juicy and tasty. Taste-wise, it's good. But for value of money, I don't think so. I mean I've tried a better one and the price is slightly cheaper.
Despite of what I just said, I do still recommend this place. Good meal, great ambiance and friendly services. Everything you need in one spot.
Szechuan Calamari served with small shrimp, garlic, chili and aioli. I only ate the shrimp so I can't say much about this dish. The shrimp was good. They fried it perfectly, I could eat the whole shrimp. The lime was unnecessary though, the shrimp was good as it was, the sourness from that lime was not compliment the garlic flavor.
Taco Lengua. Twice-cooked beef tongue and crispy pork rind. Contains beef tongue, pork rind, some kind of green sauce, fresh tomato, two small slices of lime and cilantro on top. Let's be clear, It's only my second time eating mexican food so no reason for you to trust what I'm gonna say. The tongue was tender but lack of seasoning. The crispy pork rind was not even crisp, thanks to the green sauce, it's become soggy. The green sauce was sour and the texture was strange. The taste combination of them all is like insult to your tastebud. It's still edible but not in a pleasant way. If I'd known that the green sauce was sour, I wouldn't have used that lime. I used all the lime even before I took a bite. So yeah, I took part of that absurdness. Be a smart user, don't judge this place based on my review. Compare it to others or try it yourself.
Salmon Aburi Sushi. This place serves great quality sushi at reasonable price. Just look how fatty the salmon is. Fresh, fatty, thick and smoky. You need no shoyu to eat this but a little dip will make it even better. One of the best spot to eat sushi.
