Fancy and the ambiance was superb, the food? not so much.

Australian Grilled Lamb Chops. Broccolini, tomato harissa and crispy potatoes. The main star was clearly the lamb. The potatoes tasted okey, but not fantastic. The lamb was good. It had that sweetness to it that cut the strong lamb meat smell. It's not 100% gone. Maybe around 80%. It's a good thing for me. Some people like their lamb to have no gamey or lamb distinctive flavor, some even like to have a beef kinda flavor on their lamb. For me, it's nonsense. If I want to taste beef, then I'll go for the beef. Why go for lamb which has more cholesterol to it, what a bullcrap. The portion was quite big but the meat itself wasn't that substantial. The greenies and potatoes filled 70% of that plate.

Half Kilo of Australian Ribeye. There's no chance you'll eat this alone. It's huge and pure meat. Well, we got to share, that's why it came medium well. There's no way I'd order other than medium rare steak. It kinda surprised me that the meat wasn't tough eventhough it'd been cooked medium well. Nice quality of steak and they cooked it well. Btw, the sauce, I don't get it. Why ruin the already good piece of meat with unnecessary sauce. I'll come back for the steak next time and ask for no sauce.

Oh one more thing. I don't know who is he but that time a man came to our table and asked whether everything was good. I told him that the taste was good but the presentation of the steak was ridiculously pathetic. Then he defended himself and saying that they want to keep it simple. Just steak and sauce. I totally agree with that statement, steak is supposed to be served as simple as possible. But this one looks kinda messy. Weird cut and way too saucey. It's my opinion, not really matter.

Tiger Prawns a la Planca. Generous amount of fillings. Prawns, mussels and broccoli in green curry. For me they did a great job on the green curry, not too rich but creamy enough. I just hate it when the broth overwhelm the main ingredients so yeah, I do give more credit on this. However, the fillings itself wasn't that great. The seafood was sweet and tender but that's it. Nothing lousy, nothing special. For me, I did more enjoy the ambiance rather than the food itself. Oh, one more thing. It served with ginger rice. To be blunt, it just tasted like hainan rice. A delish hainan rice. I think they used basmati rice and it gave nice texture. It tasted good and super fragrant. Love it.

Roasted Duck. Dry aged duck, carrots, celeriac with citrus chili sauce. 3 chunks of duck meat and 3 piles of shredded duck. The duck was quite tender with slight gamey taste. It's weird but I did prefer the shredded duck. It lost the nice tender texture but it tasted richer and homier. It had that very clean kind of sweetness. The citrus sauce was so so, to be honest it lacked of zestiness. However, still a solid plate of duck and not too mention, the plating was dope. So colorful and elegant.

All of my friends who tried this claimed that it's the best dish of the day. Well, I do have different opinion. For me, the best dish of that day was easily the lamb chops (I've posted the review). The duck was good but not mind blowing. There's no oomph to it. It's quite tasty but that's it. Nothing special to remember. There is no right or wrong. When it comes to food, it's all about preferences. All the best I can do is giving my own opinion. You don't have to agree with me, better try it youself.

Molten Chocolate Cake. If you check my previous post, you'll see how I love their mango panna cotta. Compare to that one, this one is clearly nothing. The chocolate wasn't bitter enough (I prefer the dark bitter chocolate, it's my preference though), the texture wasn't airy enough, the vanilla ice cream wasn't creamy enough. Everything was lack of something. It tasted like mediocre molten chocolate cake. There's nothing special, nothing stand out. I've tasted a lot better chocolate cake. If you happen to come here, I suggest you to go for the mango panna cotta. Btw, it's totally edible don't get me wrong. I just expect something more for that price.

Mango Panna Cotta. The plating was superb, it gave that satisfaction just by looking at it. Further, it made me wanna scoop that goodness. The mango panna cotta was quite strong. It tasted sweet, rich and deep at the same time. It's good but not mind blowing. The highlight for me was the texture. So soft, clean, velvety and smooth. That was my first thought. Then I tried to eat the mango panna cotta with the fresh fruit they put aside. Dang! The sourness and tanginess really boosted the mango panna cotta. It's no longer child play. It tasted so refreshing and I felt like it's hugging my soul.

I ain't dessert kind of guy, so my opinion might miss in every aspect. But 1 thing for sure, I did enjoy this one and I'll have no complain if I've to eat this every single day.

Yeah, it's pricey. But let's not ignore the magnificent ambiance and great services, I think it's worth to try. If you have special occasions to celebrate or someone to impress, I'll recommend this one.

Gulu Gulu [ SCBD, Minuman ]

    Best Cheese Tea

Jasmine Cheese Tea. First of all, I'm not trying to carry any balls. You know I give no shit. But no matter how often I drink this, it always tastes good. Like literally every single time. My fav is and always will be the quan yin cheese tea. That time I tried their jasmine cheese tea and ultimate dark choco. The jasmine was good. Better than the first time I tried it. The tea was slightly stronger and really fragrant. Not too sweet and the cheese really gave a nice deep touch to the tea. The ultimate dark choco really shocked me up. Surprisingly their chocolate tasted good. I was a bit skeptical. It's sweet and the creaminess and saltiness of the cheese foam really compliment the choco. Still, I do prefer their tea series. It just tastes so damn great.

Sate Khas Senayan [ Menteng, Indonesia ]

My top 2 place to eat chicken satay

Sate Ayam Campur Bumbu Blora. The presentation was nice and simple. It didn't look shabby at all. They put lilttle fire to keep the heat. The chicken meat was super tender. I almost didn't need teeth to chew it. And the intestine one was also tender. It's not chewy at all. The highlight was easily the peanut sauce. Creamy, deep, rich, smooth and clean. Very nutty and it didn't make me feel thristy eventhough it's so thick. The creaminess of the peanut sauce really enhanced the satay. It's very comforting to eat tasty Indonesian food like this. They really bring Indonesian food to the next level. Not a cheap meal but totally worth it. The more you eat that satay, the more addicted you become.

Caffe Pralet [ Pantai Indah Kapuk, Kafe ]

Wow, a super solid new cafe

Roast Pork Sambal Ijo Roulade. House made sambal ijo, roasted garlic cous cous, glazed peppers and coriander herb oil.

First, let's talk about the cous cous. When I ordered it, I was worried about the texture of the cous cous. If you know me, then you know that I totally hate quinoa. If it has the same dry texture like quinoa has then 100% I won't touch it at all. Luckily it's not. The cous cous was dry but not too dry. I think the coriander oil gave a huge impact to the texture. So yeah, I enjoy the cous cous.

The main star of that plate was the roast pork, no doubt. If I close my eyes when I eat it and you say that it's chicken, I'll believe it right away. Lean pork meat with no fat and no pork smell at all. It's grace when the non fatty pork meat could satisfy me that much. But shame, I love pork flavor and I tasted nothing there. Grace and shame at the same time. The sambal ijo was really compliment the roast pork. However, it tasted mediocre. It tasted like a very normal sambal ijo you can find anywhere.

Har Jeong Gai Charcoal Burger. Battered prawn paste chicken thigh, charcoal brioche bun, romainne, tomatoes, tri-color coleslaw served with signature shoestring fries.

The bun was beyond my expectation. It didn't has that dry texture to it, but the taste wasn't that far from normal bun. However, the chicken thigh was extraordinary. Tender and full of flavors. Don't you hate it when the flavor is just on the surface of the skin and the meat is completely bland? This chicken thigh wasn't that kind of crap. It's meaty, juicy, nutty and a bit sour. And the burger was solid, it's not too crumbley so I could easily eat that without making any mess. Plus point for that.

They served it with the shoestring fries and tri-color coleslaw. The fries was good. It's fat, not that skinny crunchy type of fries, I do prefer this kind of fries. Not to mention that the seasoning powder was nice. But look at the tri-color coleslaw, it only had single color. Where's the other two colors? Not really important though.

The place is still new. There's so much room to improve. Based on this dish alone, I think this place is gonna be gem in PIK area. My only concern is the price, is it worth that much? Actually, I wanna give a full 5 marks, but I should put the price as something to consider right.

Socall Ribs & Cafe [ Pluit, Barat ]

    So much room to improve

Pork Ribs. 400grams grilled baby back ribs topped with homemade honey glazed and served with salad, potato wedges, creamy spinach and baked tomato.

The baby back ribs was good and flavorful. It's fall of the bone level kind of tender. They did give plastic glove to eat the ribs with hand but I could easily eat this one with fork and knife and leaving a clean bone. The sauce was sweet but not overly sweet. The natural sweetness of the pork itself was great. It's not depending on the sauce.

I didn't eat the salad. For me it's just greenies and greenies isn't my thing. The baked potato was edible but nothing really stand out. The creamy spinach was completely different. It's creamy, earthy and mild. I did enjoy the texture too. Soft but, mushy at all and not too wet.

Sirloin Steak. 200 grams of aussie tenderly grilled sirloin steak served with mashed potato and creamy spinach.

Like any steak houses, you can choose the level of doneness. Me? 100% medium rare obviously. I'll be honest with yall, when the plate came I was quite disappointed. It lacked of that glaze and look super dry. I thought the kitchen messed up my order and gave me a well done steak. I was totally ready to bash the shit out this dish until I sliced the meat. Dang !!! Red to perfection. This exactly what people say don't judge book by its cover. So tender, not chewy at all and natural. Nothing fancy about this steak. No eleven herbs and spices or whatsoever. Just pure natural goodness. I gotta say the purest of the best with just a little seasoning but focusing on the ingredient. They have 4 kind of sauces. Socall homemade, bbq, blackpepper and mushroom. I tried 3 out of 4 options. Somehow I missed the mushroom one. Still, I ate the steak without any of it. I prefer to eat my steak without any sauce, not only here but everwhere. But if you insist me to choose one, I'll pick the homemade one. Savory and mild and the most important thing, it didn't ruin the natural goodness of the steak itself.

The mashed potato, it's just not my thing. If you like milky creamy mashed potato then you might like it. But the creamy spinach was great.

The place itself was quite comfy. Not that kind of fancy steak or ribs houses. For me it's more like homey-cafe place. So yeah, if you happen to be around pluit area and don't know what to eat, I recommend this place.

Ps : you can ask me for the shot of that perfect redness, I know not everyone like medium rare steak. But give it a shot, you'll love it. In Germany, it's completely normal to have raw pork. In Japan, they eat raw chicken. So please stop judging me for eating medium rare steak.

Geprek SAy By Shandy Aulia [ Sawah Besar, Indonesia ]

    Great Ayam Geprek

Nasi Ayam Geprek. This ayam geprek was slightly different with other geprek. The chicken wasn't too messy and still in chunk pieces which I like. I could still feel the texture. Someplace, they smash it too damn excited and I feel like eating shredded chicken.

I chose the sambal matah one. The matah was good, not too spicy and not too oily. And the price was reasonably cheap. 17K for rice and chicken. From now on, this is my benchmark for ayam geprek.

Ps : I don't like the other celebrity ayam geprek. (I know you know which brand I'm talking about) I personally don't understand why it gets that famous. Lost all texture, more pricey and too messy or did I eat it at the wrong branch at the wrong time? IDK. Should I give it another shot?

Noribu [ Green Ville, Jepang ]

substantial but that's all. not tasty

Baga Chick. Japanese fried rice bun, vegetables, chicken katsu, nori and noribu singnature sauce. Let me be blunt, for me it's not tasty enough. Everything was pretty mediocre. Even their signature sauce tasted like normal sweet sauce. The katsu was okey but not special. Crispy outside but the inside wasn't juicy enough. The rice was a bit disappointing. The concept is similar with mos cafe. Replacing the bun with pack of rice. The rice was too plain and tough. Maybe give a lil twist on the rice would be a game changer. They use the japanese theme, maybe a lil furikake or seaweed powder on the rice would be nice. I don't know, but using plain rice like that seems boring to me. It's not a bad dish, but I just felt like the taste wasn't even close to be called fantastic. The only plus point for me was the portion. One portion and all the hunger went out the window. One word, substantial.

Laksa Medan Yoserizal [ Muara Karang, China ]

    Best Emie

Emie. If you don't know this, you should try. It's famous and tasty. The noodle was good. Not too soft yet not tough either. It's bouncy as it should be. The boiled potato was good. And the gravy was sweet, seafoody or shrimpy to be exact and thick. They put (lot of) shrimp, beansprout and fried shallot. For me the most essential factor in emie is the gravy. And the gravy here was fantastic. Someplace serve crappy emie gravy and trust me, you won't take a second bite there. When it comes to emie, I only trust 2 places. Here and emie acuan. Personally I do prefer emie acuan. The gravy was more lighter and less sweet, they put less shrimp in that gravy. But it's just a matter of preferences. Both of them are great on their own strength. Light or rich gravy, you decide.

Ps : I'm medanese, so I know exactly the shit I'm talking about. And if you happen to go to medan. Do try yoserizal, you'll find the exact same taste.

Dancing Goat Coffee Co. [ Puri, Kafe ]

    Hidden spot in puri

Breakfast Burrito. Tortilla, scrambled egg, bratwurst sausage, hash brown and cheese served with mix salad and tomato salsa.

Great way to start your day. Not too heavy but substantial enough. The tortilla was bit crisp and doughy at the same time. Like the texture of that. I gotta admit that I've never thought putting scrambled egg and hash brown into burrito would be a great idea. But it is. The airy and smooth creamy scramble egg mixed with crispiness of the hash brown, dang. Ying and yang. The sausage was too liltle, I didn't really notice it. The same thing happened to the cheese. It's nearly non-existent. Good for me, I ain't big fan of cheese. The burrito itself was quite solid for me then I tried to eat it with the tomato salsa, damn. The salsa really brought it to a level higher. Such sourness and savory and bit spicy, so refreshing.

Itacho Sushi [ Thamrin, Jepang ]

Pretty f*cked up sushi but the skewers saved them

Roasted Salmon with Foie Gras. The only thing that made me order this was the foie gras. Foie gras and it's affordable. And it turned into another disappointment. First, the salmon was super thin, didn't taste much. Then the rice was also too damn plain. No salmon juice aroma or anything. My best guess is they didn't torch the salmon on top of the rice but torched it first then put the torched salmon on top of the rice instead. Otherwise it means the salmon wasn't that good in the first place. The foie gras, just forget it. Didn't taste like one. It's not even similar with the foie gras I remember. I should have known that from the very start, it's too good to be true. But at least it got some taste to it.

Roasted Salmon Skin with Butter and Blackpepper. The skin was way too thin and tasteless. The butter and blackpepper weren't even existed. There's no butter block kind of thing like the picture on the menu. Did the chef mess up and gave me a total different menu? I know that the real dish and the picture on the menu can be different but to remove the most essential component? Not wise I gotta say.

Like any itacho place, they do have special promotion menu, a super cheap one. And the rule is one person can only buy that a piece. And this is that menu. I tried itacho in SG and the special promotion sushi was the best cheap sushi I've ever had. It almost tasted better than their regular sushi. But here, total disappointment. The rice was way too solid and plain. Lacked of that sourness like any good sushi rice has. Not to mention the misleading butter and blackpepper name. Before you judge me with "deal with it, it's the cheap one", I'd like to tell you that the rice on the regular sushi was no better than this.

The rule is one sushi per person right? In my personal opinion, better keep it that way. So no one will buy it in numerous amount and feel like being deceived.
To sum my sushi review in 1 word : pathetic. No hard feelings but it is what it is. The sushi was sucks, the only good menu I tried that day was the skewers. Unlike this pretty f*cked up sushi, the skewers were nice.

Teriyaki Chicken with Yuzu Kosho. A solid skewer. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The burnt charred aroma was good. It had that charred smokiness to it. Then the spring onion, it gave crunchy texture and earthiness to it. I love spring onion in chicken skewer. I just do.

Then I tried to use the yellowish pile of sauce which was the yuzu kosho. It introduced a nice surprising flavors. Zesty, salty and bit spicy. I gotta say you must use it if you happen to eat this. The zestyness and spiciness of the yuzu really enhanced the charred chicken and the earthiness of the spring onion balanced the flavor out.
