    Love the ambiance of Penn! Place was pretty chill for hangout and wind down. Sadly, foods were underwhelming. You could also order pastry and baked goods from Penn deli (located on the second floor below the resto)

    A decent fusion pasta, scallops and king oyster were juicy and succulent. The xo sauce added a nice umami notes the the dish, even if it’s slighty too salty.

    Pork Belly Fried Rice (155k) 6/10
    Lots of pork and big portion. It’s not bad but just…. okay? Everything from the rice to the sambal was decent but nothing stood out. Again too salty for me.

    Reuben Sandwich (185k) 4/10
    You can pick focaccia or panini or sourdough for the base (also available in half portion btw). Was expecting something like Patty and Sons’ sandwich, but this one was very disappointing: barely any pastrami, too much sauerkraut, and heavy handed mustard dressing.
    Chips tasted like the bagged ones you can find in grocery store.

    Cashew and Pistachio Danish (40k) 5.5/10
    Pastry was clumped up together instead of puffing up in layers, which was a shame since the pistachio cream and candied cashew were pretty good.

    Banana Bread Butter Pudding (40k) 6.5/10
    Warm gooey bread pudding with plenty of nutella inside. The caramel on top was a nice touch. I rather enjoyed this one but best for sharing as it is quite heavy.

    Cold Mezze Platter (140k) 6/10
    Served with warm pita breads, breads were decent but got super stiff once it they cool.
    Hummus: watery and bland
    Baba ganoush: standard dip. Eggplant was pretty stringy
    Moutabel: better than the hummus. Can taste the tahini and had a good smooth texture.
    Labneh: the best one from the platter. Thick, garlicky, and zesty.
    Tabbouleh: parsley, tomato, and crackers. Zesty and refreshing
    Fattoush Salad: tomato, bellpeper, and mint. Liked the pomegranate syrup.

    Falafel (60k) 5/10
    This was deep fried yet the texture was very soggy and crumbly. Taste wise, once again not bold enough with the spice and herbs. Also not a fan of how this was served cold.

    Couscous Masabahud (140k) 5/10
    Couscous with chickpeas, tomato, carrot, zucchini, turnips, and olive. Good option for carbs and veggies dish but it does taste bland.

    Mousakaa (140k) 6.5/10
    Bellpepper, fried eggplant, tomato, and chickpeas baked in oven. Pretty good stew, saucy and hearty without being heavy.

    Italian Resto in Grand Kemang

    Visited this place on a whim during my trip to Kemang. For some reason I rarely heard people mentioning this place? Menu was very extensive and they have plenty of options for various dietary (gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.) needs. Overall it was alright but I had a bad experience with one dish 😅 which put me off from coming back.

    A well done deconstructed tiramisu, possibly because they told us it was made fresh by order. Not too wet but still creamy.

    Ravioli di Ricotta (169k) 7/10
    Ricotta and Pecorino filled ravioli topped with stracciatella cheese and cherry tomato sauce. Despite all the cheese, this was not overwhelming thanks to the tomato sauce.

    Cannoli (79k) 2/10
    This was a huge disappointment. Right as it was served we could smell that the fried pastry smelled ‘tengik’. Cream was fresh if bland and there’s plenty of crunchy pistachio, but everything tasted off due to the smell.

    Got a sudden craving for waffle after lunch and stumbled upon Woodpecker. A tiny and minimalistic coffee shop in Panglima Polim, this place is nevertheless quite packed. Can imagine this being a good place for wfc during weekdays though.

    As parking spot is very limited, I decided to go for takeaway instead of dining in. I tried their original waffle (25k) and cappucino (40k). Waffle was quite good, balanced between crispy outer and soft inside, there’s a nice sweetness in the batter as well. Coffee was pretty strong but not too bitter.

    Fujin Teppanyaki & Japanese Whisky [ Senopati, Jepang ]

    Fujin

    Fujin is a well known teppan and izakaya place. I was impressed with their variety of menu and how knowledgeable their servers were. Probably good for large group gathering but the keep in mind that they don’t offer non-smoking area. Overall foods were good if not mind blowing.

    Juicy thigh marinated with sweet sour sauce. It’s not deep fried and tasted quite sweet. Nanban was yummy but didn’t really understand the point of having pesto sauce.

    Beef Garlic Cream (150k) 7.5/10
    Despite being creamy, this was not too heavy due to the garlic. Love how tender the beef was.

    Buta Shougayaki (95k) 6/10
    Teppan pork belly with strong ginger and onion taste. More savoury vs the beef garlic. It’s alright but too fatty for me.

    Wagyu Aka Miso Butter (395k) 5/10
    Not worth it for the price. Beef was actually tougher vs the ones used in beef garlic cream.

    Truffle Gyu Cheese (75k) 7.5/10
    My fav from all the kushiyaki we got. Fragrant truffle and nice melty cheese. Crispy garlic is always a plus.

    Wagyu Karubi Miso Kara (130k) 7/10
    Juicy and perfectly roasted. The miso was thoroughly absorbed and resulted in nice umami beef.

    Negima Miso Butter (45k) 6/10
    Basic chicken thigh skewer be with leek. Can’t really taste the miso. Roasted leek was pretty good.

    Crispy Ogura Taiyaki (55k) 7.5/10
    I’m a big fan of ogura so this one one was right up my alley. Taiyaki had nice thin crispy skin, filled with creamy ogura and topped with ice cream. Not too sweet.

    Sakura Soft Serve (45k) 5/10
    Melts really really fast. Sakura tasted artificial and very sweet to me. Not recommended.

    BASQUE [ Kuningan, Spanyol ]

    Basque

    I think Basque was the first Spanish restaurant I’ve tried. Went back here a couple of weeks ago and am happy to find that taste remained pretty consistent overall.

    Patatas Bravas (65k) ⭐️8.5/10
    Crispy baby potato with aoili and spicy brava sauce. Might sound basic but potato was very crunchy and the sauce was quite addicting.

    Oxtail Bikini (130k) ⭐️8/10
    Oxtail in the middle was very succulent and juicy🥰 . Bread had nice custardy inside while having crispy exterior.

    Seafood and Chicken Paella (285k) ⭐️8/10
    Paella with safron, prawn, mussel, squid, and chicken. Thumbs up for how generous they were with the protein. This one was honestly so flavourful that I can overlook how wet it is (almost like I’m eating risotto tbh) and how there’s barely any soccarat. Compared to black paella, this one was much more tomatoey, with nice sweetness from the saffron.

    Fresh tuna chunks with avocado and lime. There’s a good amount of 🌶 as well. The squid ink rice crackers were light but super crunchy.

    Churros (65k) 7/10
    Can’t go wrong with churros! Nice crispy batter with hot chocolate/nutella sauce.

    Beef Meatballs (95k) 7/10
    Juicy meatballs with spicy tomato sauce. Love how meaty they were while still being bouncy and light.

    Croquetas (85k) 7/10
    Crunchy croquette, filled with bechamel with jamon iberico. You can opt for chicken truffle filling as well.

    Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder (195k) 6.5/10
    Lamb was fall of the bone tender. Due to minimal seasonings, you could really taste the herbs and spice blend. That said, this, alongside the potato confit, were too bland for me. The best part was honestly how sweet the Piquillo peppers were.

    Tortilla Espanolla (75k) 6/10
    Potato onion omelette with aoili and bonito flakes. Overall taste quite boring vs all the other tapas. The potato made this dish very heavy as well.

    Crispy Pork Belly (95k) 6/10
    Hmm not as crispy as I would have liked. Nice tang from pickled onion and apple at least?

    Basque Mushroom Soup (85k) 5/10
    Champignon mushroom. Quite watery and not creamy enough.

    Bluezone Centre is a healthy cafe serving quite a diverse vegan options in Jakarta. They are also known for their in house kombucha. Inside the building you can also visit healthy grocery store called Club Sehat. That said, I always visit this place exclusively for their smoothie bowl. Acai Parlor (located inside Bluezone) is my go to when I am craving Acai Bowl.

    I always got the Peanut Butter & Choco medium bowl (65k). Even though it’s called medium the portion is very filling since they fill it up with various toppings. This particular menu had plenty of banana, strawberries, granola, brownies, and huge scoop of peanut butter on top the acai.

    The acai blend was very refreshing since they had acai, orange, and strawberry in the mix while being very thick and creamy (as it should be) instead if watery or icy.

    Black coffee was just average though, quite burnt and too acidic.

    Located where Lola used to be, Cantinero is newish Mexican joint that turns to club at night. I would recommend getting there as soon as they open (6pm) to avoid 🚬.
    P.S: come during Taco Tuesday for buy 1 get 1 promo. Try both the hard and soft shell so you can see which one you like better😆

    Taco de Lengua (50k/piece)⭐️8.5/10
    Beef tongue was smoky and chewy. Love the crispy onion on top plus the spiciness from pico de gallo. Also, you can add their hot sauce for some extra heat.

    Taco de Pancita (50k/piece) ⭐️8.5/10
    Pork belly was crispy, nicely complemented with creamy avocado and earthiness of the beans. This one had a sweeter flavour profile vs the lengua. Both are great so just go with the combo you like: smoky-savoury (lengua) vs sweet-tangy (pancita)

    Taco de Carna Asada (50k/piece) 6.5/10
    Pretty decent steak taco. Beef was somewhat tough to chew. Since this is so similar to Lengua in profile I suggest getting that one instead (unless you don’t eat 👅)

    Taco de Pescado (40k/piece) 5/10
    Fried barramundi tacos. Compared to the others, this one tasted one dimensional to me. Fish didn’t taste that fresh to me either.

    Spicy sour tequila cocktails with nice kick from poblano chili. Strong pineapple and lime taste. Tasted almost like nano nano (but in a good way)

    Matambre (190k) ⭐️8/10
    If I could recommend one dish to try in Sudestada, Matambre would be it since this is the only place I know that serves this. Taken from between cow’s ribs, the rose meat almost resembles samgyeopsal despite made from beef. Chimichurri on top was very nice as well.

    Roasted Octopus (210k) ⭐️8/10
    Nice and smokey flavour but some thick parts were hard to chew. Nevertheless, one of the best octopus dish in town. Enjoyed the dressing and potatoes as well.

    Ribeye (200k/100g) 7.5/10
    Recommend you order one level below desired doneness as it will continue to cook on top of the grill. Juicy with nice marbling but would personally go for leaner cut next time. Served nicely with chimichurri sauce. Also you get one side for ordering steak. We got creamed spinach and it was decent.

    Sudestada Nachos (100k) 7.5/10
    Underrated nachos, in an Argentinian resto no less! Super loaded nachos, with plenty of beef, chili con carne, sliced avocado, and cheese sauce. Guac was nice as well. Can imagine this being great finger food with drinks.

    Mixed Mushroom Pizza (190k) 6.5/10
    White based pizza with mushroom. Not bad but would recommend their meats more since I feel like those are where Sudestada excel the most.

    Steak Salad (110k) 6/10
    Steak and mixed green with balsamic dressing. Good as a side but meat was very tough. Somehow reminded me of Thai beef salad despite the balsamic.

    Tres Leches (50k) 4/10
    Not really your traditional tres leches. Topping looks pretty but prevented the milk given to soak into the cake, resulting in dry cake. I know this dessert is supposed to be very sweet but this is too much for me.

    Grilled Brie Sandwich (95k) ⭐️9.5/10
    My favourite menu in Levant. Brie and apple are tried and true pairing but the addition of sweet-sour blueberry jam helped elevate the sandwich even more. Very nice sweet-savoury sandwich.

    French Toast (66k) ⭐️9/10
    The best french toast in town for me. Love how moist the brioche was in combination with the mascarpone and berry compote. Minus 0.5 cause sometimes they can get a bit inconsistent (strawberry vs raspberry, tons or very little mascarpone, brioche too wet/mushy, etc.).

    Croque Madame (98k) 7.5/10
    Brioche was very soft and buttery. Generous bechamel and cheese balanced with mustard and tomato. Pork ham was yummy. Recommend for sharing as flavour can get monotone after a while .

    Monte cristo (89k) 8/10
    Egg dipped pan fried brioche with cheddar and bresaola. A more savoury take (can it still be called monte cristo?) vs GDK/braud. There’s pickle and onion relish instead of berry jam and maple syrup.

    Pear ⭐️(40k), Apple (40k), Lemon ⭐️(44k), and Fresh Blueberry (52k) Tart 8/10
    Love the tarts’ crust; thin, sweet, buttery, and crunchy. I think they used almond flour cause I get some nutty flavour? Custard did not taste eggy and fruits were always fresh.

    Mini Almond Croissant ⭐️(25), Mini Croissant (16), Mini Pain au Raisin (21), Pain Chocolat (32k) 9/10
    Love how they have mini version. For me Levant has the best croissant texture in Jakarta. It’s very buttery, flaky, and chewy. Fillings are not the overflowing but still enough. Each flavour, be it chocolate or almond, taste authentic while not being too sweet.

    Blackforest (68k) 8/10
    Made with brandy, rich chocolate taste, fresh cream, and Amareno cherries, this cake had a nice bitter-sour-sweet balance without having too much cream. I feel like parents will love this as this taste like ‘kue jadul’.

    Rustic Sourdough (57k) 9/10
    A constant repurchase for me. Strong crust, nice open crumbs, and has that characteristic sourness. The mix of rye added nice nuttiness to the sourdough.

    Baguette (24k) 8/10
    Nice crust with chewy and soft interior. Heat it up in air fryer/oven for better crunch.

    Pizza Mushroom and Smoked Beef(42k/slice) 6.5/10
    Generous amount of toppings and cheese and the slice is quite big. Just taste average to me. Would recommend getting other menu over this. The smoked beef>mushroom.

    Onion Pear Blue Cheese Quiche (75k) 6.5/10
    Quiche had great texture, firm but still slightly jiggly. Am not a fan of quiche since it can be too heavy but this one is not bad.
